A Memorable Month

A month full of some amazing memories!!

Joden played in the Danger football league this year for his first time.  This went much better than the outdoor league in the fall.  One reason seemed to be that you couldn't block.  It helped them learn the basic concept of football.  Also, he was on one of his best buddies' teams, which of course he loved!

Of course Miss Reeve and I went to the games and cheered on Joden!

Joden's team got to play twice on the Danger field!  You can tell by their smiles that they loved it :)  Very glad we put him in this league this year!

At the beginning of March I got 2 weeks off of work so I kept Reeve home with me for a few days.  We spent time going to the free activities at the library, getting our nails done, going to the YMCA, and just hanging out.  It was great!

On my break I worked on an Easter egg for my door!  Mike is so helpful with doing the tasks such as cutting the wood :)

March was an exciting month for us because we had a trip planned for Washington DC for my graduation!  We took off on a Thursday only to find out our flight was canceled due to lots of snow in DC while in Omaha it was beautiful. So Thursday we went to a movie theatre that sold beer and food during the show.  We were the only ones there!  We planned to see American Sniper and it would not work, so we saw a movie called Focus with Will Smith-it was alright.  Then we checked into Midtown Suites, enjoyed free appetizers/beer with a game of Yahtzee, had dinner, and called it a night!

Friday our flight was not leaving until 5pm, so we had lots of time to hang out in Omaha.  We worked out at our hotel, enjoyed some sushi and gelato for lunch, then went to the Old Market to walk around for just a bit.  Next we headed over to the airport as we were anxious to be there and get going!  It was crazy-the flight got delayed another hour due to needing oxygen on the plan.  What the heck?  So, we decided to go have a beer at that point.  We finally made it to DC that night!

Saturday was our first official day in DC and it was the day of my graduation!  I had to be up early to make the 7:30 check-in since I missed it on Friday.  The ceremony went very well and it was such a good feeling to bring this journey to an end!  Mike deserves so much credit for all he did for us and our family along the way!

After the ceremony we changed into our site-seeing clothes and headed out for brunch!  We enjoyed some mimosas to celebrate and a wonderful seafood crepe.  It was AMAZING!

Next we just started to walk and thought we would see where it took us!
Washington Monument and the White House

What I thought was a boring history museum, followed by an art museum that we loved!
For safety they ask you to turn your backpacks facing forward...

After all the walking and museums we truly were tired!  We headed back for a quick nap so we could make our 6pm dinner reservations!

The place we chose for dinner was the Darlington House.  Atmosphere was romantic and just right for what we were celebrating.  We tried a lot of seafood since we were near a coast.  This was sharing the seafood pasta!  It was plenty of food.  And we also shared a bottle of wine between the two of us to celebrate:)  Not the large one on the mantel though!

Sunday we decided to be low key after traveling and site-seeing.  We met Mike's high school classmate Missy and her boyfriend Patrick for brunch.  Then we went to an outdoor market and just walked around.  We then went back to the hotel for a nap, followed by hanging out at a coffee shop for a bit.  We finished off our night by eating Mexican and having a few drinks at the hotel bar!

Monday was a day full of seeing the sites of DC!

Our first site was the World War II Memorial.

My birth state!
Where I have lived most of my life and met this wonderful guy :)

Our second stop was the Holocaust Museum.  We spent 3 hours in there!  This was the only picture I took because we were so busy reading and soaking it all in.  I loved this display of happy pictures of many who probably lost their lives!

Craziest thing about our 3rd stop of the day was that we ran into Grand Island's DC diplomat group while we were seeing the Arlington Cemetery.  They got to be a part of the wreath ceremony during the guard exchange.  It was so awesome to somehow have timed that right!

We rode the hop on hop off bus so we got to snap some shots of other DC sites along the way!

Our last stop for the day was another art museum.  I think we were too tired by this point to fully enjoy it!  I learned that in DC you can physically and mentally handle about two sites per day.  It takes a lot of time to soak it all in!

After the art museum we decided to make our trek back to the hotel.  On the way we saw Chinatown, stopped for some beer, saw a band :) and ended at a sushi restaurant.  We were so tired!

One thing that was tough about going on this trip was that we were missing Joden's 6th birthday.  On the flip side we were comforted knowing he would be with his Nana on his birthday.  Six years goes by so fast!  We love so many things about Joden and I often say how thankful I am to be his mother!

This is Mike's high school classmate Missy who helped us out so much in DC.  It just so happened that she worked at the same hotel where my graduation was held!  It worked out great and we cannot thank her enough for all that she and Patrick did for us:)

Mike always snoozes on the plane and I don't:)

Once I got home from DC I had a tad more time off from work and spent it with the kids!  We hit up the library for some Yoga, enjoyed Sonic ice cream in the car, played at the park, took Joden on his bowling date, and him and I also went to state basketball to see GICC and Sidney play.  I love so very much that I can have a career and also get time off of work to be with my kids :)  They mean so much to me!

While visiting my mom this was my fortune :)

Lunch date with my sisters while visiting my mom.  Love these two!  I think I am a mixture of the two of them :)

Not sick, just playing around with masks my dad grabbed at the hospital :)

GIPS had a hockey event and we decided to go.  The kids really enjoyed it:)

Drinks!  A coffee cup from my sister-n-law and some champagne from our good friends to celebrate the birth of their new son Kody!  Cheers!

We had a great time playing Headbands with some good friends!  We were laughing at the guys trying to explain their word:)

Joden had a nutrition program at school and let's just say he was really into it!

Reeve holding baby Kody!  She was so proud:)

Joden enjoying his time with Papa Schu!

Doane had a free event for alumni at the horse races, so we figured why not!  We all had a great time:)  Also, we ran into our great friends the Keaslings.  Our kids are such good friends-I love the memories they are making with them!

Grandma and Grandpa got the kids a hoop for Christmas and we finally set it up!  Those that know how much I LOVE basketball this pumped me up to see my kids shooting hoops, especially because this was something I did very often as a child!

These truly were some wonderful memories for our family and am thankful this blog will help us to remember them!
